Today we discussed steps that we can take to help us solve one and two step word problems. The following steps are:
Steps to Help Guide Math Problem Solving
1. Read the
problem to get the gist.
2. Read the
problem to understand the details (circle, highlight, underline, etc).
3. Ask,“What
is the problem asking me?” “What do I know?” and “What do I need to know?”
4. Write an equation
that matches the problem.
5. Make a plan
to solve the problem (visualize, act it out, make a model) and jot down an
estimation.
