Although we will continue to work with fractions next week by adding and subtracting proper fractions and mixed numbers, listed below is a website to an online board game that students can play to practice adding and subtracting fractions. Also, some students are having a difficult time determining a common denominator they can use to find equivalent fractions before adding and subtracting fractions. One way to find a common denominator is to determine the least common multiple. The picture below will show an example of the steps students can take to add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators. Once students make each fraction into an equivalent fraction with the same denominator, they can add or subtract the numerators.
