Thank You!

Hi,

I enjoyed learning about the students as they shared their All About Me Bags with the class! Thank you for collecting the artifacts to share with us!

Also, thank you families for completing and returning the many forms that were sent home during the first week of school. If you have not had the opportunity, please return the forms to school as soon as possible!

During the first week of school, we spent a lot of time establishing routines and procedures of the classroom. We created guidelines for collaborative conversations, independent reading, and writing in our notebooks. Also, we reviewed some of the eight mathematical practices that students will refer to throughout the school year.

Listed below are some of the skills students will learn this week:

Math- We will continue to review the eight mathematical practices. We will round numbers to the nearest tens and hundreds. Students will also review how to add and subtract 1, 2, and 3 digit numbers.

Reading- We will be reading informational texts in order to ask and answer questions. We will determine the main idea and details of a text. Also, building vocabulary will be a focus.

Writing-  Beginning to use our Writer's Notebooks by collecting ideas for writing will be a focus. Additionally, students will draft true stories about a family member and place that is special to them.

Social Studies- We will discuss the characteristics and purpose of maps and globes.

Back to School Night- Third grade will be having Back to School Night on Wednesday, September 10th from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. Please consider attending to gain important information about third grade.
