Hi,
We have been working hard in third grade as the end of the first quarter gets closer! Listed below is some information about the content students will be learning and helpful notes to keep in mind!
During our reading block, students are continuing to read literary texts. However, we have transitioned from short stories to chapter books. Students are continuing to work on the following skills:
- Ask and answer questions about the text using text evidence
- Identify the traits, motivations, and actions of a character
- Determine the meaning of words or phrases in a text
- Retell or summarize the text
During our writing block, we have transitioned into writing about reading. This requires the students to read a text multiple times for different purposes. Also, students have been learning how to provide detailed responses to questions about the text.
While learning math, the students will be exploring fractions. The students will learn how to write and represent different fractions. Also, the students will learn how to place fractions on a number line. Furthermore, we will start discussing equivalent fractions (1/2 = 2/4 = 3/6).
The newts and fiddler crabs have recently arrived in our classrooms. Students will be spending time learning and observing these organisms in the aquariums during science.
