We had a great second week of school! Many routines were still being practiced and established, but the following is a list of topics discussed in class:
- Making connections between The Bee Tree and Thank You, Mr. Falker (books written by Patricia Polacco)
- Using Google Classroom and Chromebooks to read nonfiction text about fireflies
- Exploring the Read to Self and Read to Someone Centers
- Analyzing writing from third graders to understand what third grade writers should include in their notebooks
- Using mentor texts, such as Come On, Rain, to learn about voice and using a narrative structure while writing
- Understanding how to select a small moment for a writing topic
- Discussing the differences between continents and countries
- Understanding the importance of knowing where we live in the world
- Using map elements to help us read a map
- Completing number talks to help us build mental math and different strategies to solve problems
- Attending to precision while solving a problem
- Modeling with mathematics
- Using appropriate tools strategically
- Looking for and making use of structure
- Looking for and expressing regularity in repeated reasoning
- Practicing addition and subtraction facts to build fact fluency
